SCG Develops ASEAN Youth Potential Towards ‘Green Generation’: Nurturing New Generation to Care for the Environment Through ‘Sharing the Dream’ Scholarships

SCG continues to provide ‘Sharing the Dream’ scholarships in the ASEAN region, focusing on the ‘Green Generation’ concept to promote education and empower the new generation with environmental consciousness and participation in creating a sustainable future. This aligns with SCG’s ‘Inclusive Green Growth’ approach, which aims to create growth in all dimensions and reduce social inequality for regional sustainability. In 2024, SCG began awarding scholarships in Jakarta, Indonesia, to 410 high school and university students, supporting Indonesia’s 2045 development goals (Golden Indonesia 2045) in human resource development and expertise in science and technology. This project has provided scholarships to 4,460 students in Indonesia over 12 consecutive years.

Mr. Paramate Nisagornsen, Assistant Vice President – Central Administration of SCG, said, “SCG is committed to supporting sustainable growth in the ASEAN region following the ‘Inclusive Green Growth’ approach in all dimensions – business, society, and environment. This year’s SCG Sharing the Dream project promotes the Green Generation concept to empower the new generation with understanding and participation in solving environmental issues for a sustainable future together, while improving youth quality of life and reducing social inequality in line with SCG’s ESG4Plus strategy.”

Mrs. Hataichanok Ritakahnee Furumo, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta, said, “Next year, Thailand and Indonesia will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The ‘Sharing the Dream’ scholarship program plays a crucial role in supporting cooperation between the two countries, enabling youth to access education and develop their potential with knowledge, environmental awareness, and opportunities for hands-on experience to drive Indonesia towards sustainability.”

Examples of sustainability projects supported by SCG youth include managing food waste for community composting, developing digital platforms that combine technology and culture for education, raising awareness about waste separation in communities, and developing applications to facilitate participation in tree planting and community environmental conservation projects.

Priyanto Rohmattullah, Director of Environment at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, said, “We are facing an environmental crisis that affects human well-being. The vision for Indonesia’s development in 2045 focuses on transitioning to a green economy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and adapts to severe climate change. To achieve this vision, we need the participation of youth who understand ESG concepts, and education is key. SCG’s Sharing the Dream scholarship program promotes access to quality education for Indonesian students.”
