Bangkok – 29 August 2025: Unilever Thailand, a leading global consumer products company, in collaboration with SCG Chemicals (SCGC), a leader in integrated polymer solutions for sustainability, has launched recycled packaging under the Knorr brand for “Knorr Professional” – the first time in ASEAN. The food-grade recycled packaging is developed using advanced recycling technology from SCGC GREEN POLYMER™. This process converts used plastics into circular naphtha feedstock, which is then used to produce new Certified Circular Polyolefin Resins. These resins have properties equivalent to virgin plastics and are certified under the ISCC PLUS standard across the entire supply chain, making SCGC the first in Thailand’s petrochemical industry to achieve this. This certification ensures the packaging can be used safely for food products, free from harmful chemical residues or contaminants that could be hazardous to health or taint the food. This launch marks the first time food packaging produced through an advanced recycling process has been introduced in ASEAN. Unilever has already launched Knorr Professional products featuring this sustainable packaging in Thailand and Vietnam.

This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of Unilever and SCGC to drive business toward global sustainability in line with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, a business framework that emphasizes environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and good governance to foster sustainable growth. It aligns with Unilever’s goal of using 25% recycled plastic resin in its packaging by 2025 and supports SCGC’s target to return 500,000 tons of used plastic to the circular economy annually by 2030.
Kulnipa Lertpimonchai, Managing Director for UFS Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Cambodia, said, “For Unilever, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are deeply committed to reducing plastic use – from packaging design to offering environmentally friendly alternatives. This collaboration with SCGC, starting from the design phase, reflects our drive to develop and deliver eco-friendly choices for both consumers and business partners. This commitment helps us to build a sustainable future and truly realize our vision of ‘Brighten Everyday Life for All.’”

Chatri Eamsobhana, Chief Commercial Officer of SCG Chemicals (SCGC), said, “SCGC prioritizes developing technology to meet the specific needs of across industries, particularly the food sector with its high safety standards. This partnership with Unilever marks a significant milestone as we leverage our advanced recycling technology. The process, developed by SCGC, uses a catalyst that enables recycling at lower temperatures, reducing energy consumption, being environmentally friendly, and mitigating plastic waste accumulation in the country. This represents the first commercial application of such technology in ASEAN. Certified under the international ISCC PLUS standard across the entire supply chain, this initiative demonstrates tangible technological progress and creates new value from plastic waste without compromising quality or safety. SCGC is the first in the Thai petrochemical industry to receive this certification for the whole supply chain, and this new packaging will help reduce plastic waste by 30,000 kilograms annually.”

The launch of this recycled plastic packaging from advanced recycling technology reaffirms a continued commitment to developing products that meet consumer needs while being environmentally responsible. Previously, Unilever and SCGC have collaborated to develop recycled packaging using mechanical recycling technology for various products, such as Vaseline skincare bottles, Sunlight dishwashing liquid gallons, Comfort fabric softener bottles, and Sunlight bottle cap.
