Mr. Ramesh Setthasakkigo, Managing Director of The Siam Cement (Lampang) Co., Ltd., explained the purpose of organizing this activity and the significance of the day’s events.

SCG is committed to conducting business according to sustainable development principles, creating cooperation with government agencies, private sector organizations, and civil society. The company has constructed water retention weirs following the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (King Rama IX) throughout the country, totaling 127,618 weirs under the “Rak Phu Pha Mahanathi” project from 2007 to present. These initiatives restore abundance and return ecological balance to upstream forest watersheds while managing community water resources to provide water for consumption and agriculture year-round, improving quality of life with stable income and sustainable self-reliance.

SCG has expanded community water management through technology and water management innovations to enable efficient water usage by restoring, reserving, storing, and distributing water to communities. The company has created water sources to address drought through more than 30 projects, increasing water reserves by over 700,000 cubic meters in Lampang Province. This ensures communities have sufficient water for consumption and agriculture throughout the year, enabling residents to maintain livelihoods and income within their own areas without seeking employment in cities, fostering warm communities and passing down occupations to future generations.

This success stems from community unity and cooperation from all sectors, including government agencies, civil society, employees, and volunteers, which forms the heart of sustainable development. Building networks to create strong collective power serves as the key to establishing good upstream watersheds leading to abundant downstream areas.

In 2025, SCG aims to construct a total of 10,000 weirs. On the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 73rd Birthday on July 28, 2025, SCG organized this activity to construct the 7,310th water retention weir to honor His Majesty the King. This reflects His Majesty’s royal resolve to uphold royal initiatives and commitment to continuing and expanding upon the royal projects initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great for the sustainability and well-being of the Thai people.
