SCG Joins Hands with BST to Donate Cloth Face Masks Worth 550,000 Baht to Communities to Self-Protect against the COVID-19 Virus

Chemicals Business, SCG, has joined hands with Bangkok Synthetics Co., Ltd. or BST to donate a total of 36,500 pieces of cloth face masks worth over 550,000 baht to communities surrounding Map Ta Phut, Map Kha Pattana, and Ban Chang Municipalities in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus to locals in Rayong province. The face masks were received by Mr. Tawin Phobuathong, Mayor of Map Ta Phut Municipality, Mr. Suchin Pulhirun, Mayor of Ban Chang Subdistrict Municipality, Mr. Sukit Chanmanee, Mayor of Map Kha Subdistrict Municipality, and community representatives at the Map Ta Phut Municipality Office. The initiative was carried out with the aim to encourage local communities in Rayong province to wear cloth face masks every time they leave their homes in line with the announcement from the Committee of Communicable Disease of Rayong Province on Requiring Citizens in Rayong Province to Wear Face Masks or Cloth Face Masks Outside Their Residences from April 9, 2020 onwards.

Mr. Pichet Tangpanyarat, Olefins Operation Director of Chemicals Business, SCG, said, “Cloth face masks are considered essential items especially during outbreaks, as they are suitable for those who are not sick because the masks can help prevent the spread of the virus. Most importantly, cloth face masks can be washed and reused. Therefore, SCG and BST have commissioned a total of 36,500 pieces of adults’ and children’s cloth face masks to be donated to 72 communities in line with the Committee of Communicable Disease of Rayong Province on Requiring Citizens in Rayong Province to Wear Face Masks or Cloth Face Masks Outside Their Residences. We hope that these cloth face masks from SCG and BST will allow communities to have enough face masks to protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Phusit Thepkliang, Safety, Health, and Environmental Department Manager, Bangkok Synthetics said, “BST has always put the people in communities first. For this project, we have cooperated with SCG to commission cloth face masks to be made for communities and donated the masks to three municipalities: Map Ta Phut, Map Kha Pattana Subdistrict, and Ban Chang Subdistrict. We believe that once communities can take care of themselves by wearing cloth face masks every time they leave the house, the risk of spreading the virus will be significantly lowered.”

People in the community have peace of mind who have received a cloth mask.

Mr. Tawin Phobuathong, Mayor of Map Ta Phut Municipality said, “There is a large number of people living in Map Ta Phut Municipality, and many households still lack cloth face masks. The donation of cloth face masks from Chemicals Business, SCG, and Bangkok Synthetics means that locals across communities will have more cloth face masks to use in order to increase their safety. Moreover, we are asking everybody to cooperate with the announcement from Committee of Communicable Disease of Rayong Province on Requiring Citizens in Rayong Province to Wear Face Masks or Cloth Face Masks Outside Their Residences from April 9, 2020 onwards.”

Mr. Suchin Pulhirun, Mayor of Ban Chang Subdistrict Municipality added, “The cloth face masks that have been donated are made by the communities themselves using the design from the Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health. Therefore, this project has promoted those in Map Ta Phut Municipality and Ban Chang Subdistrict who can sew to help generate income for their families during the COVID-19 crisis.”

“The locals across all three municipalities would like to thank SCG and BST for their kind gesture and their initiative that has helped them. The municipalities will certainly ensure that all the face masks reach the people in these areas,” said Mr. Sukit Chanmanee, Mayor of Map Kha Subdistrict Municipality.

Meanwhile, SCG and BST have advised the recipients of the cloth face masks to wash the face masks before every use in order to get rid of germs and ensure good hygiene. The face masks may be washed using gentle soap or disinfectant and dried in a windy area away from harsh sunlight. If they wish to iron the face masks, they should only iron the outer side of the mask.
