“SCG – CPAC” joins forces with “Samsung E&A” to sign MOU, enhancing construction technology capabilities with 3D Printing and Special cementitious materials for the global market

The Concrete Products and Aggregate Co., Ltd. (CPAC), a subsidiary of SCG, led by Mr. Thammasak Sethaudom, President of SCG (second from left), and Mr. Surachai Nimlaor, President of SCG Cement and Green Solution Business (first from left), along with Mr. Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. (second from right) and Mr. Dong Hyun Kim, Executive Vice President Engineering Technology Division of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. (first from right), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in 3D Printing and special cementitious materials commercialization opportunities. This collaboration combines the strengths of Samsung E&A from South Korea, which specializes in comprehensive international construction, with CPAC’s excellence in cement and concrete products and technology. CPAC, under SCG, has been in the construction materials industry for over a century, aiming to elevate construction industry standards to the global stage.

The MOU signing is due to both companies sharing a vision to introduce innovation and new technologies to respond to and drive modern and sustainable construction industry for the global market. Particularly, construction using 3D printing can increase work efficiency through an Automation Process from Digital Files controlled by Computer Software, helping to reduce work errors, solve skilled labor shortages, speed up construction, reduce Construction Waste following Green Construction principles, and reduce construction costs compared to traditional methods. Additionally, it aims to study and research materials science, machinery and equipment, and exchange knowledge and experience in construction systems using 3D Printing Technology, including Special Cementitious Materials.

Samsung E&A has brought 350 tons of 3D Printing Mortar with outstanding quality properties, smooth texture, capable of creating complex shapes up to multi-story buildings, with strength and durability from materials developed and patented for over a decade. This is complemented by Technology Consultation support from CPAC, covering services in 3D Printing, Engineering Consultation and Project Evaluation Support, up to Professional services in architectural design and other aesthetic considerations from a team of experienced experts. These will be used in the construction of a building located in Saudi Arabia.
